
THEATRE COURSES
Please read the general descriptions and requirements for each level of theatre that is offered below. All theatre courses are participatory and project focused by nature.
Students can take theatre for all 4 years, but it requires planning ahead. See the theatre director for further information.
THEATRE I

THEATRE I- Students learn the foundations of theatre, acting (voice & movement), history, creative expressions, critical evaluation of theatre, a brief overview of technical theatre aspects, media and careers. Students work on in class projects and performances. Students are required to perform for an audience in class.
Students in Theatre 1 are required to attend at least one campus show a semester and/or participate as an usher, actor, or crew member. They are not mandated, but encouraged to audition for any campus show or apply for a crew spot for any show. If cast, students are required to pay a minimum $65 show fee and attend all designated rehearsals. The rehearsal policy goes into effect when cast. Please see the handbook for more details.
TECHNICAL THEATRE I-IV

TECHNICAL THEATRE I- covers a wide range of elements: demonstration of knowledge and safety protocols in productions, stage-management, 3-D design work for publicity, lights, sound, costumes, make-up, props, and set. Students are required to participate in a crew position for at least 1 show.
TECHNICAL THEATRE II-III- covers further developments of technical theatre production skills listed above. Students are required to apply for head crew positions and participate in any crew capacity at these levels for 2 or more shows a year.
Starting in 2026, students will be required to enter work into the State U.I.L. Theatrical Design events.
All crew positions in shows require a minimum of $65 per show and attendance at all designated rehearsals. The rehearsal policy goes into effect when cast. Please see the handbook for more details.
Students who enjoy technical theatre are encouraged to apply to be a paid Performing Arts Technician for potential events. Students must be enrolled in a Technical Theatre course and complete 2 PAC safety workshops, along with passing a PAC exam, and shadowing at least 3 campus events to be considered. THEATRE II-IV

THEATRE II-IV- covers further development of performance, auditioning, improv, portfolio creations, movement, and a variety of acting methods.
Students are required at these levels to perform in class, audition for and participate in at least two campus shows as an actor or crew member. Participation in a show when cast, regardless of size of role, understudy, swing, or technical role requires a minimum show fee of $65 and attendance at all designated rehearsals. The rehearsal policy goes into effect when cast as well as a grade requirement. Students who audition and are not cast are required to fulfill a minimum of 2 show shows in the school year. THEATRE PRODUCTION II-IV

THEATRE PRODUCTION I-III- This course is for the most serious theatre acting or technical theatre student.
This course requires placement through an audition/director approval and mandates all students to participate in every FTC Production through acting and/or crew as well as run for officer positions, fulfill officer committements if elected, and attend additional theatre events throughout the year.
Students must attend assigned after-school rehearsals, occasional Saturday rehearsals, and all performances; all of which are academic grades for the course.
